ANAFOOT: Recent Talent Detection Initiative

ANAFOOT recently launched a comprehensive talent identification program across its 10 regional centers in Cameroon1.

Key aspects of this initiative include:

Targeting boys and girls aged 8-16 who registered since August 30, 2023

Employing a panel of experts, including former footballers, for a rigorous selection process

Evaluating players based on technical, athletic, tactical, and psychological abilities

Forming teams of 9 or 11 players for practice matches lasting 2x15 or 2x20 minutes

Aiming to identify approximately 500 young talents to join the sporting elite

Scholarship Program

In September 2023, ANAFOOT awarded scholarships to over 100 boys and girls6. This event coincided with the official back-to-school ceremony at the Bamendzi Stadium in Bafoussam. The scholarships were given to students who excelled both academically and athletically.

Partnerships and Player Development

ANAFOOT has partnered with Orange Cameroun to support young talents2. This collaboration has led to:

Placement of around 30 players with clubs in Cameroon's elite leagues

Regular selection of ANAFOOT graduates for national youth teams, including U-20 Women's World Cup qualifiers

A draft ceremony where young talents were handed over to elite clubs

Leadership and Structure

ANAFOOT is led by:

Carl Enow Ngachu as Director General

Issa Hayatou served as the Chairman of the Board (PCA) until his recent passing in August 20244

Educational Focus

ANAFOOT emphasizes the importance of education alongside football development:

Insists on players continuing their schooling while training

Prepares conventions with clubs to ensure players' educational priorities are respected

Impact on Cameroonian Football

ANAFOOT is playing a crucial role in developing grassroots football in Cameroon3. The academy is seen as a pivotal institution for:

Nurturing young talents from an early age (as young as 10-11 years old)

Providing players to various national teams

Working on player profiles to meet international market demands

ANAFOOT's comprehensive approach to youth development in football is gradually reshaping Cameroon's football landscape, combining rigorous athletic training with quality education to produce well-rounded athletes prepared for success both on and off the pitch.
